NEMA 1-15P / Type A: 2-pin power cables for the USA and North America

The NEMA 1-15P, often referred to internationally as plug type A or US plug type A, has two flat pins and no earth contact. It is therefore used for 2-pole or insulated appliances without an earth conductor.

When combined with an IEC 60320 C7 appliance plug, this cable configuration is suitable, for example, for power supplies, audio and video equipment, small appliances and other devices with a 2-pole IEC C8 appliance socket.

Do not confuse NEMA 1-15P with NEMA 5-15P

The main difference is the protective earth conductor: NEMA 1-15P has two contacts and no earth contact. NEMA 5-15P, or Type B, has an additional protective earth contact and is intended for use with appropriately earthed equipment.
