CEE 7/7 to C13 coloured power cable
DINIC power cables, from CEE 7/7 to IEC 60320 C13, allow devices, workstations and power supply routes to be colour-coded. This makes it easier for system integrators, IT departments and service providers to find their way around during installation, maintenance and equipment replacement. The connection cables link a suitable earth-connected socket to devices that have a C14 input.
Select the colour, length and plug type to suit your installation. For guidance on connecting devices, see our
comparison of C13, C15 and C19.
Coloured C13 power cables for clearly organised power cabling
Selecting coloured power cables for electrical equipment
A standardised colour-coding system makes it easier to identify connection cables in the plant room, at the workstation and in the workshop. To achieve this, specify which colour corresponds to which group of equipment or power supply, and document this allocation. This ensures the system remains clear even when the setup is expanded or individual devices are replaced. Additional cable labelling helps to clearly distinguish between cables of the same colour.
Assigning connections correctly
On the mains side, there is a CEE 7/7 earthed plug; on the equipment side, a C13 connector. This fits the C14 equipment socket, for example on suitably equipped PCs, monitors, servers or network devices. The cables have an earth conductor.
Check the power source in the rack
Check the output of your power distribution unit or UPS. For a C13 output, you will need a C14 plug at the cable end. You will find coloured C13/C14 IT extension leads in a separate category.
These features determine the correct model
| Feature | What to look out for |
|---|---|
| Cable length | Measure the actual route to be laid, including a reasonable connection reserve. Not every colour is available in every length. |
| Conductor cross-section | Select 0.75 mm² or 1.0 mm² per conductor based on the specific product data. Take into account the length, equipment requirements and current-carrying capacity of the complete connection cable as a whole. |
| Plug design | In addition to versions with a straight C13 connector, there are selected variants with an angled appliance connection. The product illustration and installation situation determine the direction of the cable outlet. |
| Packaging | Bulk packaging is suitable for direct use on site. Selected variants in a DINIC box with Euro-holes are designed for hanging display in specialist retail outlets. |
For technical selection: The decisive factors are equipment requirements, rated current, voltage and the specifications of the respective cable. Please check for any required test marks, such as VDE, on a per-item basis. Electrical load capacity cannot be determined from the sheath colour alone.
Frequently asked questions about coloured C13 mains cables
Can the colours indicate different power supply paths?
Yes. In a system configured accordingly, different sheath colours can, for example, help to identify the allocation to A and B power supplies. The colour indicates the intended allocation; it does not in itself establish a separate or redundant power supply.
Will a C13 power cable fit any IT device?
The actual device socket is the deciding factor. C13 is part of the C14 series. Devices with C6, C16 or C20 sockets require other suitable connectors. Further connection combinations can be found in the overview of national power cables.
What details are useful for repeat orders?
For each application, please specify the item number, colour, length, conductor cross-section and plug type. Please also take into account the packaging unit or packaging type. This ensures that repeat orders can be clearly assigned to their intended use.
