To do this, you’ll need a device with OTG support and a suitable Micro-USB OTG adapter with a USB-A socket.
Which micro-USB cable is suitable for your device?
First, check the socket on your device and the connection to your computer, hub or power supply. Then consider the cable length, data transfer capabilities, charging requirements and packaging. For OTG or video output, the device’s capabilities are also a key factor.
| Your requirements | Suitable model | Example product |
|---|---|---|
| Charging and data transfer via a USB-A port | USB-A plug to Micro-B plug for a computer, USB hub or charger. | USB-A to Micro-B, 1 m, black, polybag |
| White HQ cable for the workplace or retail | DINIC Monaco range with gold-plated contacts and DINIC box with Euro-hole. | High-quality Micro-USB cable, 1 m, white |
| Connect a Micro-B device to USB-C | USB-C plug to USB 2.0 Micro-B plug for charging and data transfers. | USB-C to Micro-B, 1 m, DINIC Box |
| Using USB-A accessories with an OTG-enabled device | Micro-B OTG plug to USB-A socket. The device and operating system must support the peripheral. | Micro-USB OTG adapter, 0.10 m |
USB-A or USB-C: the right counterpart
The Micro-B end is designed to connect to the end device. For an existing USB-A port, choose a USB-A to Micro-B cable; for a USB-C port, choose a USB-C to Micro-B cable with the appropriate configuration.
A USB-C connector on its own does not guarantee a higher data transfer rate. For the linked USB-C to Micro-B cable, the device end is specified as USB 2.0. The technical specifications of the cable and devices are decisive.
What does a Micro-USB OTG adapter do?
OTG enables USB host mode on devices equipped with the relevant functionality. For example, a USB stick, a mouse, a keyboard or a service dongle can be connected to the adapter’s USB-A socket.
This requires OTG support on the Micro-USB device, as well as support for the accessory by both the device and the operating system. The adapter does not provide this functionality on devices without OTG.
Select cable length and packaging for your application
- 0.5 m: short connections at charging points, service equipment or components positioned close together.
- 1 m: a versatile length for workstations, workshops and accessory sets.
- 2 m: additional reach when the device and USB port are further apart.
Take cable routing and allow for movement into account, whilst ensuring the device connection is not subjected to tension. For stock, distribution and project requirements, polybags or bulk packaging may be suitable depending on the item; for product presentation, DINIC boxes with Euro holes and blister packs are also available.
The packaging is specified in the product reference number. Compare packaging types for procurement and specialist retailers.
Special versions for existing devices
- Micro-USB coiled cable, approx. 20–60 cm: USB-A to Micro-B with variable working length for compact cable management.
- MHL adapter from Micro-USB to HDMI: Video and audio output exclusively with compatible MHL devices. Depending on the device, an additional power supply may be required.
Please note product status: These two special versions are listed as discontinued items. Please check stock levels and device compatibility before purchasing.
Frequently asked questions about Micro-USB cables and adaptors
Are Micro-USB, Mini-USB and USB-C the same connector?
No. These are different connectors. Check the exact connector designation in the device specifications or compare a photo of the socket with the product image. The standard cables presented here feature a USB 2.0 Micro-B connector on the device end.
Can a Micro-USB cable charge and transfer data at the same time?
The models described as data and charging cables support both functions on compatible devices. For data transfer, the other end must also be a data port. A USB power supply on its own does not establish a data connection to a computer.
Why is my device charging but not being recognised by the computer?
Check whether the cable is designed for data transfer and whether you are using a data port. Depending on the device, data transfer may need to be enabled, or a suitable connection mode and driver may need to be set up. Testing with a different data cable and USB port can help narrow down the issue.
Does every Micro-USB cable support fast charging?
The connector type alone does not determine this. The device, charger and cable must be compatible with the intended charging function. Check the specifications of the specific product and the device. Even a USB-C connector on the power adaptor is no guarantee of fast charging.
Does a Micro-USB to HDMI adapter work with any smartphone?
No. The linked MHL adapter requires a device that supports MHL via its micro-USB port. A standard micro-USB port or a data and charging cable is not sufficient for video output.
