Which DisplayPort adapter is suitable for your connection?
The key factor is the connection from the source device’s output to the display’s input. A DP-to-HDMI adapter, for example, connects a computer with a DisplayPort output to an HDMI screen. The following overview shows suitable DINIC models for common connection tasks.

These specifications apply to the linked products. The computer, adaptor, connection cable and display must all support the desired resolution and refresh rate.
Four points to consider when making the right choice
1. Connector and orientation
DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort and USB-C have different connector shapes. Check that the connectors on both devices match and note the transmission direction specified in the product description.
2. Resolution and refresh rate
For a UHD workstation running at 60 Hz, you’ll need an adapter that’s specifically rated for 4K at 60 Hz. The specification ‘4K’ alone isn’t enough: a 4K 30 Hz model won’t reach 60 Hz at this resolution.
3. Video output via USB-C
For the models shown here, a USB-C-to-DisplayPort adapter requires the source device to support DisplayPort Alt Mode. A USB-C port intended solely for charging or USB data transfer is not sufficient for this purpose.
4. Cables and design
Make sure to factor in the cable between the adapter socket and the screen. Short adapter cables can make cable management easier. For resale or project requirements, choose the packaging offered with the item, such as a DINIC box or polybag.
Frequently asked questions about DisplayPort adapters
What is the difference between active and passive DisplayPort adaptors?
A passive adapter to HDMI or DVI requires an output with Dual-Mode DisplayPort (DP++). The source device provides the appropriate signal. An active adapter converts the DisplayPort signal itself. Check the capabilities of the device’s output and the requirements of the respective adapter; the connector type alone does not provide this information.
Does a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter also work the other way round?
No, the DP-to-HDMI solution shown here is designed for DisplayPort as the source and HDMI as the display. To use an HDMI output on a DisplayPort monitor, you need an active converter specifically designed for HDMI to DisplayPort.
Does a DisplayPort adapter also transmit audio?
Audio transmission is possible via HDMI or DisplayPort, provided that the adapter, source and display device support it. VGA transmits video signals only. If using a DVI connection, make sure to provide a separate audio connection.
When is a DisplayPort cable sufficient instead of an adapter?
If the source and monitor have compatible DisplayPort ports, a DisplayPort cable provides a direct connection. DisplayPort connectors are available for linking two existing DP cables. These do not amplify the signal; the total length and cable quality remain crucial.
Why is the monitor not displaying anything despite the adapter being connected?
First, check the signal direction and the selected monitor input. Then check the cable connections, display settings, resolution and refresh rate. With USB-C, video output must be supported; with passive DP-to-HDMI or DP-to-DVI adaptors, DP++ is required.

Select the cable that matches the adapter’s output socket and the display: HDMI cables, DisplayPort cables, DVI cables or VGA cables and adapters. Again, ensure you select the correct length, resolution and refresh rate.
