Which Micro-USB 3.0 cable is compatible with your drive?

Check both connectors: a USB-A socket is required on the computer or hub, and a Micro-B 3.0 socket on the device. The term ‘hard drive cable’ alone is not sufficient to guide your choice, as external drives have different interfaces.

Allow for longer cables and power supply

For external drives that draw their power via USB, the connection must carry both data and the required power supply. As cable length increases, signal quality and voltage drop become more important.

Use as direct a connection as possible without additional extension cables. Test longer cables with the intended computer and drive under the planned operating conditions. Also, follow the device manufacturer’s specifications regarding the power supply.

How can I recognise a Micro-B 3.0 connector?

The Micro-B 3.0 plug is wide and has two contact areas side by side. It will not fit into a standard Micro-B 2.0 socket. For devices with the narrow connector, choose a suitable Micro-USB 2.0 cable.

Is Micro-B 3.0 the same as USB-B 3.0?

No. Micro-B 3.0 and the larger USB 3.0 Type-B plug have different shapes. For a device with the larger Type-B socket, you’ll find suitable connection cables in the USB 3.0 A-to-B cable category.

Will the cable fit any external hard drive or SSD?

It depends on the socket on the drive enclosure. These cables are compatible with Micro-B 3.0 ports. Devices with USB-C or other sockets require a different connector combination. Compare the product image with your existing cable or device connector.

What type of packaging is suitable for resale?
