Which car USB charger is right for your needs?

There are four key factors to consider when choosing a USB car charger: the vehicle’s electrical system, USB ports, charging protocol and the right cable. A USB-C charger may be sufficient for a single smartphone. If you need to charge two devices in the car, a charging adapter with USB-C and USB-A offers more connection options.

Requirements Suitable model DINIC product

12 V or 24 V: the difference between cars and lorries

For a 24 V socket in a lorry, you will need an adapter specifically approved for 24 V. The 20 W and 48 W models linked above support 12–24 V DC. Other items in this category may be limited to 12 V. The key factor is the input voltage specified in the relevant product details.

Understanding PD, PPS and Quick Charge

Power Delivery enables fast charging via USB-C. PPS adds variable voltage regulation to compatible chargers and devices. Quick Charge is available on the USB-A port of the linked dual-port chargers. For fast charging, both the charger and the device must support the same standard; the cable must also be compatible.

The right charging cable for smartphones and tablets

  • Devices with USB-C: For the USB-C charging port, choose a USB-C to USB-C cable with the appropriate charging power rating.
  • iPhone and iPad with Lightning: Use a Lightning charging cable that matches the charging port. A suitable USB-C-to-Lightning cable is required for USB-C Power Delivery.
  • Devices with Micro-USB: Choose a Micro-USB charging cable with a USB-A or USB-C plug that matches your charging adapter.

Frequently asked questions about USB car chargers

Does a 48 W car charger deliver 48 W to a smartphone?

The 48 W specification for the linked dual-port model refers to the total power output. Up to 30 W is specified for USB-C PD and up to 18 W for USB-A QC. The actual power your device uses depends on the supported charging profile, the cable and the charge level.

Can I charge two devices at the same time?

With the linked USB-C/USB-A dual-port chargers, two devices can be connected at the same time. The specifications for each port and simultaneous use, as stated on the product page, determine how the power is allocated.

Does fast charging work with any USB cable?

Having the right plug alone is not enough. The cable, charging adapter and device must be suitable for the desired charging power and charging method. A higher-capacity cable does not increase the charger’s output power.

Does the adapter also support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

A charging adapter plugged into the vehicle’s socket is intended to supply power. It does not establish a data connection to the infotainment system. For wired CarPlay or Android Auto, you will need the designated vehicle USB port and a suitable data cable.
