Which USB printer cable is right for your workplace?

A USB A-to-USB B cable connects a USB A port on a computer or USB hub to a compatible USB B device port. This combination of connectors is often referred to as a USB printer cable and is also suitable for scanners, multifunction devices and measuring instruments with the corresponding interface.

Choosing the right USB cable

Will a USB A-to-B cable fit any printer?

The connectors are key: the computer or hub requires a USB-A port, whilst the device needs a compatible USB-B socket. Check the connector type in the device documentation or by referring to the product images. Mini-USB, Micro-USB and USB-C are other connector types.

Which cable do I need for a USB-C port on a laptop?

For a laptop with a USB-C port and a device with a USB-B port, you’ll find suitable options in the USB-C to USB-B cables category. Make sure to check the exact USB-B type there to ensure it’s compatible with your device.

What cable length is suitable?

Measure the actual distance from the computer to the device – including where the cable runs behind furniture or through cable ducts. Choose 2, 3 or 5 metres to suit this distance and allow for a little slack at the connectors. For longer connections or additional hubs, follow the device manufacturer’s specifications.

Polybag or DINIC box with Euro hole?

The polybag offers compact individual packaging for installation, servicing and inclusion with devices. A box with a Euro hole is suitable for hanging display in specialist shops. Compare the technical specifications and packaging type using the relevant item number.

What is the USB-A-to-A cable, which is also listed, intended for?

The 1.80 m USB-A-to-A cable has a USB-A plug at both ends. It is intended exclusively for applications where the device manufacturer explicitly specifies this connection. For a printer with a USB-B port, you will need the A-to-B version.
