What does MFi mean in relation to Lightning cables?
MFi denotes accessories certified by Apple. When purchasing Lightning cables, explicitly stated MFi certification is an important selection criterion. You will find corresponding DINIC models with USB-A and USB-C in this category.
Always check the certification on the specific product. Membership of this category does not imply blanket certification of all adaptors and charging sets.
Planning Lightning fast charging correctly
For supported iPhones with Lightning, you’ll need a USB-C-to-Lightning cable and a suitable USB-C power adaptor for USB-PD fast charging. A USB-A cable does not support this USB-PD fast charging function.
The actual charging power depends on the device, the power adaptor, the cable and the operating conditions. A high wattage rating on the charger therefore does not automatically correspond to the power at which the iPhone charges. View USB chargers and power adaptors.
0.5 m, 1 m or 2 m: Which cable length is best?
- 0.5 m: a short connection at the charging station, to a power bank or for devices positioned close together.
- 1 m: a versatile length for desks, service points and everyday device set-ups.
- 2 m: greater freedom of movement when the mains adaptor and device are further apart.
Plan the actual cable route, including some slack. The plug should remain easily accessible even when using a case; avoid putting tension on the connector and sharp bends.
Frequently asked questions about iPhone charging cables and Lightning accessories
Which charging cable do I need for an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14?
These models have a Lightning connector. For a USB-A charger, choose USB-A to Lightning; for a USB-C charger, choose USB-C to Lightning. For USB-PD fast charging, you’ll need the USB-C version and a suitable power adaptor.
Will a Lightning cable work with an iPhone 15 or newer?
Not directly: the iPhone 15 and newer models have a USB-C port. To connect to a USB-C power adaptor, you’ll need a USB-C to USB-C cable. For iPads, check the port on the specific model.
Are Lightning cables also suitable for data transfer?
The DINIC products described as charging and data cables, or sync cables, also support data synchronisation for compatible devices. For this to work, the computer port used must be capable of transferring data. A USB power adaptor alone is used solely for power supply.
Can I use a Lightning charging cable for HDMI or a monitor?
A standard USB-A or USB-C to Lightning charging cable is no substitute for a suitable video adapter. To connect to a screen, you will need a video solution supported by the specific device.
