Which SATA or SAS cable do you need?
The specific connection task is key: a SATA data cable connects the drive to the motherboard or controller. A SATA power adapter connects it to a suitable power output. A SAS breakout cable routes a corresponding controller connection to several drive connections.

SATA and SAS connectors: frequently asked questions
What do the 7, 15 and 22-pin configurations mean for SATA?
A 7-pin SATA connector transmits data, whilst a 15-pin SATA connector provides power. A 22-pin SATA combo connector combines both functions as 7+15 pins. SATA, S-ATA and Serial ATA all refer to the same interface. For a drive with separate connectors, both the data connection and the power supply must be provided.
When are angled connectors or Clip Connect useful?
A 90° connector can make cable routing easier when space is limited behind the drive. Check the orientation using the product image, as ‘left’ and ‘right’ depend on the direction from which you are viewing it. Clip Connect is a mechanical locking mechanism that reduces the risk of accidental disconnection from compatible connectors. Choose the length based on the actual routing path inside the case.
Does a SATA Y-power cable also transmit data?
No. The Y-power cables offered here are used exclusively for power distribution. The data connection for the drives is provided separately. When distributing power, take into account the power consumption of the connected drives and the load capacity of the existing power supply output.
What should you check when using a SAS breakout cable?
Compare the controller connector, drive connectors and the interface supported by the system. For the cable offered here, these are SFF-8643 to four SFF-8482 connectors. Also check the drive power supply and the space available for the angled, low-profile connectors. The product specifications and the documentation for the controller and drive are decisive.
