Latest information on BIS certification for India
Transparent information on the current market situation regarding BIS-certified power cables
Important notice
As of: 12 May 2026
The supply of permanently BIS-certified power cables for the Indian market remains difficult at present. Despite intensive efforts, we are currently unable to promise a binding and permanently reliable solution.
However, we are currently in contact with an Indian manufacturer and are exploring a potential partnership to establish a robust, long-term manufacturing solution directly in India.
Why is the situation so difficult at present?
The main reasons are the political tensions between India and China since the 2020 border conflict, as well as India’s desire to build up its own domestic production capacity. As a result, foreign, particularly Chinese, factories are being subject to much stricter scrutiny, and procedures are in some cases being delayed or handled with great caution.
This affects not only individual manufacturers but is currently a widespread issue in this market environment. For importers, manufacturing facilities and customers, this primarily means: limited planning certainty, delayed decisions and a lack of reliability regarding the renewal or reissuance of BIS certifications.
Current status as of 12 May 2026
The BIS certificate of our previous manufacturing partner in China expired on 18 July 2025.
Since then, we have been working intensively with various partners to establish a viable alternative. Unfortunately, collaboration with another certified Asian manufacturing partner has not led to the long-term solution we had hoped for.
As things stand, a reliable extension of the certification is not expected there either. Consequently, we are currently unable to offer any concrete, long-term solution for BIS-certified power cables.
In parallel, we are currently in contact with an Indian manufacturer and are exploring a potential collaboration. The aim is to establish a robust manufacturing solution directly in India. As discussions and assessments are still at an early stage, we are currently unable to make any firm statements regarding availability, delivery dates or specific products.
What does this mean for our customers?
- At present, there is still no reliably predictable source for permanently BIS-certified power cables.
- This situation is not an isolated case, but affects the market as a whole.
- Delivery dates and availability can currently only be guaranteed to a limited extent in the long term.
- A potential partnership with an Indian manufacturer is currently being explored, but has not yet been finalised.
- Goods already produced were manufactured before the respective certificates expired and continue to meet the previous technical requirements.
What we are currently doing
We are not merely monitoring developments, but are actively working on potential solutions. To this end, we are in close contact with existing partners, are continuously reviewing alternative manufacturing options, and are currently also attempting to establish a suitable production partnership directly in India.
Our current contact with an Indian manufacturer is an important step in this direction. Nevertheless, it would not be responsible at this stage to name a confirmed solution, specific items, delivery dates or binding availability.
Our goal remains clear: as soon as a robust and sustainable solution can be realised, we will implement it for our customers and update the information on this page accordingly.
We will keep you informed
If you would like to be informed as soon as a solution emerges or new information becomes available, you can send us a short message with a single click. We will then be happy to add you to our notification list.
