Transparent information on the current market situation regarding BIS-certified power cables

There has been an initial, cautiously positive development regarding the planned production of BIS-certified power cables directly in India: We have now received the relevant BIS certifications and the necessary test reports for the first two planned cable types, which will serve as the basis for the required EU declarations of conformity.

We therefore hope to be able to put these two cable types into production shortly, subject to certain conditions. However, as further organisational, technical and supply-related requirements still need to be finalised, we are currently unable to give any firm commitment regarding the start of production, delivery dates or availability. As soon as a reliable schedule can be drawn up, we will announce the relevant items on this page at short notice.

Why is the situation still difficult?

The main reasons are the political tensions between India and China since the 2020 border conflict, as well as India’s desire to build up its own domestic production capacity more strongly. As a result, foreign – particularly Chinese – factories are being scrutinised much more strictly, and procedures are in some cases being delayed or handled with great caution.

This affects not only individual manufacturers but is a general problem in this market environment. For importers, manufacturing facilities and customers, this primarily means a lack of planning certainty, delayed decisions and a lack of reliability regarding the renewal or reissuance of BIS certifications.

The documentation now available for two cable designs therefore represents an important step. However, it does not yet constitute definitive confirmation of a specific start to production or a permanently guaranteed ability to supply.

Current status as at 12 May 2026

The BIS certificate held by our previous manufacturing partner in China expired on 18 July 2025.

Since then, we have been working intensively with various partners to establish a viable alternative. Collaboration with another certified Asian manufacturing partner has also failed to yield the long-term solution we had hoped for.

In parallel, we have been exploring the possibility of manufacturing directly in India. An important milestone has now been reached in this regard: the relevant BIS certifications and associated test reports are now available for the first two cable variants planned. These reports also form an essential basis for drawing up the necessary EU declarations of conformity.

On the basis of these documents, we hope to be able to put the two cable variants into production shortly. This is currently still subject to final technical, organisational and commercial arrangements.

Consequently, no binding statements can yet be made regarding the start of production, delivery dates, delivery quantities or long-term availability. As soon as the requirements have been finalised, we will announce the relevant items and provide further information on this page at short notice.

What does this mean for our customers?

  • The relevant BIS certifications and test reports are now available for two planned cable variants manufactured in India.
  • The final requirements for the start of production are currently being reviewed and finalised.
  • A firm start date for production or delivery date cannot be confirmed at this stage.
  • The specific items will be announced on this page shortly, as soon as a reliable schedule is available.
  • For other cable variants, planning certainty remains limited.
  • Goods already produced were manufactured before the respective certificates expired and continue to meet the previous technical requirements.

What we are currently doing

We are continuing to work actively on a sustainable long-term manufacturing solution. To this end, we are in close contact with our partners and are currently finalising the necessary arrangements for the potential production of the first two cable variants directly in India.

The BIS certifications and test reports now available represent an important milestone. Nevertheless, it would not be responsible at this stage to specify a confirmed start date for production, concrete delivery dates or binding availability.

Our objective remains clear: as soon as the outstanding issues have been fully resolved and a robust production and delivery plan is in place, we will publish the relevant items and all pertinent information on this page at short notice.
