The connection cable establishes an IEEE-1394a connection between FireWire ports with a 6-pin connector format and end devices with a 4-pin FireWire interface. The 6-pin side is typically used on the host (PC, workstation, interface), while the 4-pin side is often found on compact devices (e.g. camcorders/recorders/AV peripherals). Note on the interface: 4-pin FireWire connections generally do not carry a supply voltage; the device is therefore supplied separately if necessary.
