IEC 60320 extension leads for equipment and power distribution

An IEC extension cable does not connect directly to a Brazilian wall socket. It uses standardised IEC 60320 connectors on the equipment side and can be used, for example, between a PDU, UPS, power strip and equipment.

Why is no additional Brazilian approval required for a standard IEC extension lead? The country-specific Brazilian requirement relates to the connection to the mains supply – in particular, mains plugs and sockets in accordance with NBR 14136 and the corresponding INMETRO conformity. An IEC 60320 extension lead does not feature a Brazilian mains plug and merely establishes the connection within the equipment’s power supply. The technical data, load capacities and approvals specified for the respective item are therefore decisive.
