ENEC is the abbreviation for "European Norms Electrical Certification". These four letters are part of the registered trade mark, indicating that a product has been certified by one of the national certification institutes in Europe. Today, there are 25 certification institutes (also known as certification bodies) that have signed the agreement. In addition to the mark itself, there are also two numbers that indicate which certification body has issued the ENEC certification. The ENEC agreement was originally set up to provide the manufacture of luminaires with a common European certification mark to replace the various national marks.
The ENEC mark ensures that the product fulfils relevant EN safety standards and performance testing requirements, in particular the EU Low Voltage Directive, that the manufacturer works with a quality system in accordance with ISO 9000, that end products are retested every two years and that the manufacturer has documented production control, e.g. through manufacturing inspections.
The member countries include:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.
